The History of Glenwood Telephone Company

TODAY

Upon Mr. Adams' death in 1982, Janice O'Brien took over the management of the company, which today has ten employees.

In 1986, the company had 650 subscribers; in 1993, there were 675; and in 2000 the count was 968 at year-end. Today, we have over a

thousand telephone customers, over 750 dialup internet customers, and over 150 DSL customers.

In December 1998, the new business office was built. Today in order to add the new EWSD switch the original company site is once again

being used as offices for outside plant personnel and for storage area for the company.

On November of 2002 we upgraded our central office and placed into service an EWSD ONE UP equipped with 1216 lines, replacing the

Stromberg-Carlson DCO platform.

In March of 2004 we began to roll out our High Gear DSL Service. In December of 2006 we completed our buildout of our DSL infastructure

and now have the ability to provide 100% of our telephone customers High Speed DSL Broadband service.

Also in March of 2004 in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture / Rural Utilities Service division we started the Adams

Center for Technology, our free public Internet computer access point, which has over 800 active accounts in use. In order to maintain

the Adams Center for Technology after the grant project ended we opened thenetcenter, where customers can come shop for SouthernLINC

phones and equipment, fax, scan, print, get their computer repaired, buy CB Radios, Logger Lites, and a wide variety of other items.

The phone company is still the smallest Independant Telephone Company in Georgia, and continues to provide one on one customer service

that the bigger companies cannot. REAL SERVICE. REAL SUPPORT is our motto.
